Draw given names from a source-backed collection and keep the ones worth considering. Labels such as “female” and “male” describe aggregate historical records, never a person’s identity.
Inputs are processed by our generation service. They are not added to a public name bank.

Practical guide
Make this tool useful.
Start with the familiar set
The default has 1,012 selected given names anchored in recent U.S. Social Security records. The 19,378-name extended bank includes spellings selected from the wider 1880–2025 national archive plus the previous reviewed collection, so some entries may be uncommon today.
Use letters as a creative constraint
A first letter can connect a group of names; an ending can change the rhythm. Use a length range if a name needs to fit a story cast, design label, or activity. The result is a spelling match, not a statement about pronunciation.
Read associations with care
Aggregate U.S. records describe names reported with births in specific periods. A name can cross these labels or change over time. The “mixed use” option is a browsing aid, not a prediction about any individual.
Questions about this tool
Why is a name I know absent?
This is a selected finite collection, not a complete registry. Rare names, names outside the U.S. source scope, and names with different spellings may be missing.
Can I use these names commercially?
The generator supplies name ideas from public aggregate records. It does not clear trademarks, character rights, or other uses of a particular name.
How do historical filters work?
An exact birth year (1880–2025) or decade selects given-name spellings published in the SSA national files for that period; the 2020s option covers only published years through 2025. A top-100, top-500, or top-2,000 band limits eligible names by a count-sorted position in the selected year or decade. These controls apply to given-name candidates, not surnames. A strict combination can leave too few names, and the result message will explain the shortage. This is a historical browsing filter, not a claim about a person with that name.
